Coupled support for sheep – what is on the table?

SCOTLAND’S SHEEP producers has been offered a new support scheme that could, if they accept it, redirect a portion of the  area payment budget towards supporting actual headage.

Castaway on a Scottish loch

Seaweed! Wonderful soil conditioner for the garden and also makes a good tonic hair shampoo (if you have any) but to a fisherman, like myself, seaweed is a curse.

Gomer grosses £100,000 plus

More than £100,000 changed hands at the dispersal of Tim and Alice Amery’s Gomer herd from Llandeilo, Carmarthen, where a top price of 4300gns was set for the 4½-year-old cow, Gomer Precious Pansy F30, which sold with her five-month-old heifer calf.

Thainstone topper at 2200gns

Averages fell on the year for the main two breeds at Aberdeen and Northern Marts multi-breed ram sale at Thainstone, on Tuesday, where a lead price of 2200gns was achieved for the champion Texel, from Jim Innes’ Strathbogie flock from Dunscroft, Huntly.
