Myrna Corrie, MBE, who died recently, had been involved in the agricultural scene all her life. Born in 1938 at Park of Tongland Farm near Kirkcudbright, educated at Kirkcudbright Academy and at Atholl Crescent Domestic Science College in Edinburgh.

Myrna ran her own Agricultural Secretarial business in Kirkcudbrightshire.

She was the first lady Chairman of the Stewartry Young Farmers, and went on to become the first lady Chairman of the Young Farmers in Scotland. Myrna also had a spell as national President of the Scottish Association of the Young Farmers in the 1990’s.

Myrna served 19 years as Secretary of the Stewartry Agricultural Society, and has written a full history of the Society since 1946. She went to every Stewartry Show during that time.

In 1997 she was awarded an MBE for services to agriculture.

She worked for the Galloway Cattle Society for a number of years, and was appointed Secretary of the Belted Galloway Society from 2000 until 2010.

Away from agriculture Myrna was a founder Member of Kirkcudbright Handbell Ringers which was formed in 1989.

A private family funeral is being held, and a Thanksgiving Memorial Service will be held on 13th April at 12 noon in St Cuthberts Parish Church, Kirkcudbright. Everyone welcome.
