Margaret Thomson, a well-known face in Highland cattle showing rings – and prior to that pony showing – passed away recently on the same day as her local Neilston Show.

The Thomson family, based at Woodneuk, Barrhead, lost another member when Margaret Thomson (nee Morris/Buchanan) peacefully passed away at home with her family by her side.

She first met her late husband, William Thomson, as a student in 1954 when she came to work with the dairyman at Killoch Farm, for TBL Thomson. They met up again 24 years later at Neilston Show and married in 2000 – William had always laughed and said that he wondered how many people came into a marriage with a reference from their father-in-law.

Margaret quickly became a valued member of both the family and the farm and will be remembered for her love of all animals, ceilidh music played very loudly and dancing, gardening and floral art and her absolute elegance with outfits to suit every occasion.

Margaret’s family, Alan and Pat Morris, had arranged a private cremation for immediate family, as per Margaret’s wishes.

Many will miss her and the family said it hoped that her friends and family would get a chance to raise a glass to her at the Royal Highland Show and at the Highland cattle breed's show and sale in Oban, in October, and that her many friends from throughout her life will also remember Margaret in their own way.
