SCOTLAND’S MEN proved triumphant, winning two gold medals, a silver and a bronze at the World Indoor Tug of War Championships in Cesenatico, Italy.

The squad, coached by Dunblane farmer Robert Paterson, Upper Auchenlay, and trained by Jo Welsh, led the way in the 600kg section, with team members Tom Nelson, Dave Goodfellow, Graham Hendry, Colin Montgomery, Robin Shankland, Alan Brodie, Kevin Campbell and Graeme Duncan, beating favourites England in the final. The other gold came in the 680kg weight, with Dave Galloway, Robin Shankland, Dave Goodfellow, Tom Nelson, John Lyon, Colin Montgomery, Graham Hendry, Steve Garner and Craig Mitchell, demolishing The Netherlands in the climax of that section.

Those successes followed on from a bronze medal in the 560kg and a silver medal in the 640kg, maintaining Scotland’s position at the top of the world rankings and setting them up for a successful 2012 world championships, when Scotland plays host.
