OLYMPIC GAMES was the theme of the recent West Region young farmers’ annual conference, this year held at the Spittal of Glenshee Hotel, Glenshee, with more than 60 delegates turning out, despite the snow and ice.

The weekend kicked off on the Friday evening, when the delegates were split into their countries and invited to attend the black tie ‘opening ceremony’ dinner. This was followed by a disco provided by Stuart Russell, which saw everyone dancing into the wee small hours and then afterwards retiring to settle down beside the open fire.

The Saturday morning breakfast saw the survivors from the night before attend an Olympic breakfast and then down to business with the West Region mid-point assembly.

After a well deserved lunch break, the attendees were treated to an informative and emotional presentation by Susie Hope from the Mercy Ship charity, which the young farmers hope to be supporting this year.

The West Olympic committee then took charge to kick off the real games, including creative weightlifting, the flying javelin and a relay with a difference.

The games continued into the night with coin slide curling, where funds were raised for the Mercy Ships charity, and ended on the Sunday morning with a quiz and charades.
