YOUNG FARMERS battled through the snow to ensure a successful two days of national competitions, in Inverness.

Events included the finals of the senior speechmaking, the quiz, ten-pin bowling, member of the year and five-aside football.

Winning the senior speechmaking, with 104 2/3 points, was the Crossroads team of Mary Howie, Robert Dykes and Kathryn Hamilton, while Annandale finished second and Stranraer and Rhins YFC came in third.

The National quiz was won by a team from Inver Ross YFC, including Stuart Grant, Peter Williams, Craig Nicol and Ricky Marwick, who beat Carluke into second place, with East Fife coming in third.

Ten-pin bowling champions were Avondale’s James Leiper, Scott Walker, Ewan Rankin, Tom Anderson, Alistair Walker and Gillian Walker, with the Halkirk team finishing second and Edinburgh in third. Avondale also led the five-aside football, ahead of East Aberdeenshire in second and Kilmaurs in third.

Member of the Year was won by Deborah Hair, of Brechin JAC, with the runner up Lisa Murchie, coming from Annandale and David McKerrow, Bell Baxter, finishing in third place.
