A strong turn-out for the senior West region YF stockjudging contest at Ayr, was led by a team from Stirling, Strathendrick and Strathkelvin YFC.

Scoring a total of 700 points, the team included Graeme Mackie, Craig Malone and Ross Fotheringham. They finished in front of Stewartry’s Howard Armstrong, Katie Davidson and Michael Yates, on 679 points, while Carluke’s Lizzie Mackie, Robert Parkin and Scott Somerville finished third, with 673 points.

Best junior team was the Ayr trio of Andrew Wyllie, Wallace Kennedy and Sean Kennedy, who came in ahead of West Renfrew’s Emma Whyte, Callum Telfer and Danny MacDonald, while James Gibb, David Paterson and Ann Linton, of Biggar, were third.

Top individual was John Marr, of Mauchline, on 257 points, while runner up was Carluke’s Scott Bourman, on 251 points.

The senior arts and crafts competition – which had a ‘gardeners’ paradise’ theme – was won by Kilmaurs, with SSS YFC in second and Biggar coming in third.

The juniors had an ‘on safari’ theme, and another Ayrshire team came out top there, with Mauchline taking the lead, ahead of second placed Kilmaurs and Crossroads in third.
