CROSSROADS YFC ruled supreme at the recent West Region junior speechmaking elimination, when the team not only scooped first prize but David Smith also won the best individual on the day.

Held at Barony College, some eight teams took part in the chairman, proposer and opposer format, and David was joined by Ewan Cochrane and Emma Paterson to discuss 'The farming industry must embrace the digital revolution in order to survive.'

They notched up 86 points on the board to take first place.

It was a close run thing for second place with only two-thirds of a point separating the next two teams on 83 2/3 and 83 points, respectively.

Taking second with 'Too much, too soon' was the Avondale YFC team of Emily Bryson, Zoe Bryson and Emily Fleming, while Stewartry YFC's Megan Forsyth, Abby Forsyth and Rosie Walsh-Kirk discussed 'Does technology have a negative impact on society' to come third.

Teams from Stranraer and Rhins YFC, Mauchline YFC and Carluke YFC will also compete at the National final on Saturday.

Also held at Barony College was the quiz elimination which saw Angus Erskine, Laura Scott, Donald Erskine and Emma Shanks from Kilmaurs YFC take the top spot, with Carluke YFC in second place.
