ANOTHER sell-out crowd enjoyed a fantastic evening of 10-minute performances from nine teams at the recent East Region Cabaret.

Held at Perth Concert Hall, the competition encourages a variety of styles - from Christmas to Cluedo, with all the usual funny farming banter expected from the 'Easties' in between - to keep the audience entertained at the evening which was hosted by regional chair, Jane Orr.

Judges for the evening, Aly Young, Mrs Avril Murray and Robert Taylor, were certainly given plenty to think about and offered a helpful critique ahead of the prize giving.

Taking the top spot was the Perthshire District team with 'Andymonium', an action-packed look at Andy Murray's rise to fame featuring several soloists, a bagpiper and even a cup dance routine. Produced by Jim Smith with music accompanied by David Griffis, the district scored 90 points to scoop first place.

Taking second place with 84 points was last year's winning team from Bell Baxter ADs. Performing 'Not got a Clue-do' which showcased some clever lyric changing and a good variety of costumes and colour, it was produced by club chairman and secretary, James Orr and Jen Monteith.

East Fife JAC's cowboy-themed 'Fresh princess of Deadwood', which was produced by Anna Dickinson, finished third with 73 points.

A stand-out performance from Robin Norrie as a bus driver come pilot come holiday rep during Brechin YFC's 'A holiday to remember' saw him win the prize for the best act outwith the winning team.

No Cabaret would be complete without a couple of closing acts, and keeping the audience entertained while the judges came to their final decision were Ally Marshall and Ewan Penny with a Beechgrove Garden-themed excerpt, followed by a stand-up skit from Jim Smith.

"The talent showcased on stage was exceptional from the start of the day's rehearsals through to the end of the evening. The sold-out audience was provided with an exceptional show and I believe the standard is growing year on year," commented East chairman, Jane Orr.
