CELEBRATING its third year, the Agri and Rural Affairs conference welcomed around 100 SAYFC members from all corners of the country to Jurys Inn, Dyce, last weekend, reports Kayley Kennedy.
The weekend gave members the opportunity to not only catch up with like-minded members of the organisation, but to also hear first-hand some pointers from a number of key figure heads in the industry.
As well as a couple of breakout and panel sessions, delegates were given the chance to visit Redhouse of Barra, a family business that incorporates beef, sheep, soft fruit and a number of diversifications, as well as the Glasgoforest dairy unit, Marshall Farms' beef and sheep unit, and Skillymarno, to look at poultry and arable enterprises.
The group was given a demonstration on farm safety by SP Energy Networks, with the video of this available on the SAYFC’s Facebook page.
In the week that ScotGov published a 10-point action plan aimed at kick-starting a new generation of Scottish farmers by increasing the number of starter farm opportunities on public land, it just goes to show that the Agri and Rural Affairs group, and SAYFC as a whole, is developing a greater voice within in the industry.
