HELD at Prestwick Academy on Sunday was the West Region junior speechmaking competition, where the team from Avondale YFC secured the top spot.
The team was led up by chairman Ann Fleming, with Annie Murray acting as proposer and Katy Russell as opposer. In second place was Kilmaurs YFC's Marion Muir, Karen Shepherd and Jane Hamilton, while Carluke YFC's Mhairi Hall, Evanna Carlin and Laura Hunter finished in third.
As well as winning a red ticket for the team competition, Annie Murray was the best individual and Mhairi Haul added to her team third with the award for best chairman. Further tickets went to Finlay Sloan, of Machars YFC's 'pink' team, as best proposer and Fiona Cuthbertson, from Crossroads YFC, was best opposer.
Held on the same day was the quiz where Ayrshire came out on top with Dumfries and Galloway in second and Lanarkshire in third.
