IT was an action packed day for members of the West Region when they put their skills to the test in the handicraft box, craftmanship and stockjudging competitions.

The day gives stockjudgers the chance for an official practice before competing at the Royal Highland Show and it was a good day for Machars YFC's junior member, Ross Campbell, when he secured first place in the juniors and first overall. Machars YFC finished in second in the junior section, eclipsed by Bute YFC's Iain Crawford, Jenna Reid and Lewis Robertson.

Among the seniors it was Euan Corbett, Cameron McGregor and Struan McGregor, from Mauchline YFC, who finished in first, with Struan sharing first individual place with Jenn Reid, of Lower Nithsdale YFC.

A good turnout of handicraft boxes, which again offer clubs the chance to finesse their entries before the Highland, saw Avondale YFC head up the senior section with Ayr YFC leading the juniors.
