“I’m looking for a photo of your uncle Tom, between 1953 and 1963 on a farm at the back o’ beyond standing with his tweed bunnet on!”

OUR ‘TURN back time’ features using our newly digitised historic bank of negatives has gone down well with readers, but we’re sorry that some of the captions have not been up to scratch.
One of the more recent features had us wrongly identifying some people in the caption. This was on page 43, in our April 2 edition, with the top table we had as Bill Romanis, Miss Anne Phillips and John Kerr. In actual fact, Elspeth Dale (the SAFYC’s current president), the lady in the photograph held up her hands to being in the picture, alongside its first president and local vet, Jim Taylor on the left and John Kerr, who went on to be director of the SAYFC.

And in the same issue, Sandy Wilkie, of Muller, was able to identify those in the picture of East Kilbride’s drama entry in March, 1956 – mainly, he says, because the table and dresser used as props came out of his hoose and both of which were in use until very recently!
In the pic (on page 41, April 2 issue) are Tom and Gavin Loggie, then of North Hill O’ Dripps, and John Strang, Cogrunnan Mill, with the ladies being Betty Craig, Margaret Boyd and A Lennox.
For those interested – and I guarantee you will be pretty gobsmacked – more than 4000 have been put through the digitisation process and are currently on our website. It’s amazing who you might see!
They can be accessed on our website, www.thescottishfarmer.co.uk via our photo sales button; or, more specifically at http://thescottishfarmer.newsprints.co.uk/search/scu/p/u/233824/1/archive%20photographs
