FIRST we had the ‘Killie Pie’ wars when the maker of the famous football ground snack became embroiled in a dispute with the eponymous football club, now we’ve got the first salvoes in the Mac Pie war being fired.
M and S has turned the Scottish-designed macaroni pie into a luxury item, selling its 200g ‘Mac ‘n’ cheese and bacon pie’ for an eye-watering £3 a pop.
But award-winning regular Scottish makers of such a pie for many years have pointed out that their pies cost just £1.20 and are urging customers to ‘buy local’. Just don’t let M and S loose on haggis pies and puff pastry rolls!
