SIR, – Why should lynx be reintroduced to hunt deer when hunting foxes with hounds was strictly regulated by Acts of Parliament, both north and south of the Border, because it was thought to be cruel?
If fox hunting was cruel, then using lynx to hunt and kill deer must be. Have any of our farming unions contacted organisations, such as the SSPCA, RSPB and RSPCA for their opinions?
None of them should support the reintroduction of lynx considering their views on animal cruelty.
The farming community may need the support of other sections of society to prevent the reintroduction of lynx and other large predators.
