YOU’ can’t lick it! A wacky, cooked breakfast ice cream proved a surprise hit among trippers to last week’s Highland Show.
The bacon, maple syrup and pancake flavour from Mackie’s proved more popular than its black pudding and apple counterpart amongst the 30 flavours celebrating Mackie’s 30th anniversary.
Staff from Mackie’s ice cream were left stunned by the demand for the frozen treat – flavoured with chunks of bacon – and sold out their entire supplies in just two days.
The black pudding and apple proved to be more of an acquired taste. Mackie’s sales and events manager Cathie Fraser said: “We know visitors to the show are happy to taste small samples of just about any interesting flavour, whether they think they will love it or loathe it.
“But what amazed us about the bacon, maple syrup and pancake flavour was that people loved it so much they were ordering tubs or cones of it. We sold hundreds of scoops and sold out by the Saturday.”
Also a hit amongst the 30 flavours on offer was the gin and tonic, which could make it into the production line.
