Sir, – I would like to congratulate Euan McIwraith and all involved in ‘Muck, sweat and steers: 40 years of Landward’, broadcast by BBC Scotland on last weekend.
I took some time off the busy farming schedule at this time of year to relax in front of the TV and thoroughly enjoyed the coverage of the last 40 years of Landward which spanned my own farming career since I returned home from travelling and working on farms in Australia and New Zealand in my youth.
The programme was really excellent in tracking changes and developments in rural life and farming in Scotland over the past four decades.
Excellent footage of agri-journalism from the past was revisited and reawakened many memories, particularly the poignant coverage of the foot-and-mouth outbreak in 2001.
Above all, the programme showed the passion that we farmers have for our work and why we still do it despite all the trials and tribulations.
An excellent, well produced and skilfully edited programme. I would urge any of The SF’s readers who missed it to catch up on the BBC iPlayer. Well done Euan and all of your team at BBC Scotland!
