MANY shows have recently travelled down the route of having women only judging themes. Wigtown Show organisers this year have gone a step further and the judging list for the August 3 event has a distinctly Young Farmers theme, either being in the YF age bracket or have a connection to the organisation.
Between them they have already achieved many accolades. For example, the Clydesdale judge, Matthew Bedford, is the current holder of the prestigious Cawdor Cup for males, while light horse judges, Hannah Sloan and Alice Greenwood, have both been qualifiers for the HOYS.
The honour of judging the champion of Champions goes to Andrew McConchie, a keen Young Farmer in his day.
The trophies will be presented by John Owen, a recent national chairman of SAYFC, who coincidentally is married to one of the show’s local members. One of Craig Wilson’s young auctioneers, Drew Kennedy, will place the interbreed cattle pairs and commercial sheep. The fleeces will be assessed by the Wool Board’s youngest depot manager, William Hewitson, and the scarecrow competition will be judged by outgoing Machars YFC secretary and local artist, Emily Nash.
