Sir, – I write to you regarding an occurrence which may be happening all over the country at this time of year.
I was travelling North on the A1 trunk road after Berwick-Upon-Tweed on Tuesday 30th August at approx 1.30pm in the afternoon. I came upon a slow moving queue of traffic – I was five vehicles from the front.
Causing the slow moving queue was a Lexion Combine followed by two Case tractors pulling Bailey trailers, at the front was the obligatory Discovery.
As a contractor myself, I am used to the difficulties and impatience shown to us by other road users when moving our similar equipment, but I have got to say what was exhibited by the farmer/contractor was of unbelievable selfishness.
We followed the convoy for approx five miles, passing countless lay-bys and wide junctions where those involved could have shown a small amount of courtesy to the travelling public who were following behind. When I looked in my mirrors the queue behind was as far as I could see and I mean as far as I could see.
W hat those people thought I am sure is unprintable. No wonder at times we get such a bad press. To the people involved, you were an utter embarrassment and you should be ashamed of your disgraceful actions.
