SIR, – The notable aspect of the well-deserved departure of the Crofting Commission’s chief executive (The SF September 10) is the absence of any reported word of thanks and good wishes from the commission’s convener.
It is clear that things at the top are really bad, which reinforces the need for him to go as well. While this may be difficult for the government to achieve, given that the previous minister for crofting gave up her power to select him, a vote of no confidence by commissioners could do the trick. After all, that was the way he removed his predecessor.
