SIR, – I have just watched the final episode of The Mart and the whole series has been excellent entertainment due both to the BBC and those who took part.
The couthy doric tongues were a delight to listen to and reminded me of my time spent in Buchan working for the Department in the early/mid 80s.
Once I got a handle on nout, girse and the like it was plain sailing and the farming folk were very hospitable and the salt of the earth. I am glad to see that things have not changed all that much in the intervening years.
