Sir, – I received two letters from ScotGov telling me about my advance payments for 2016 – one explaining my basic payment and the other explaining my greening payment.
On each letter I was told that I had no payments due because my loan was greater than that itemised. Howeve,r if the two were added together, the total was greater than my loan and I was due several thousand euro’s.
I called the hotline, where a very helpful lady [Maggie] went through the figures and confirmed I was due a payment. Unfortunately, the computer was unable to carry out this calculation – it took Maggie two minutes – so I have not yet received it. Maggie, given another minute, could have written a cheque and posted it.
Is it not time to scrap the computer and invest the £180m in pens and calculators for Maggie and others so that payments could be made on time!
