Dear Sir,

The front page of The SF last week advertised what tickets, bottles of booze and a dosing gun were worth – but the advert couldn’t put a price on the calf or the lamb!

As the UK has now entered into a trade war with some of the most powerful countries in Europe over fishing, mostly in Scottish waters, what is going to happen to the price of lamb in the back end?

Our biggest lamb buyer is France – are they going to retaliate and stop buying British lamb which is worth a living to a great many farmers in Scotland, Wales and the North of England? Worth more than 10,000 tonnes of fish! Consider that our Scottish Government have not got a say, as the Treaty was pre Scottish devolution!

So who can make a prediction what a store hill lamb is worth in September? A fiver or a tenner, one thing is certain, the price of lamb will not come down in the shops.

Angus A Macdonald,

Balivanich,

Benbecula
