Sir, – I had the pleasure of judging 21 fields of wheat on behalf of the West Fife show committee on July 17.
The weather was perfect and an ideal day to walk fields. With the added bonus of some stunning views across the Forth.
My steward for the day was Russell Wood and he did a grand job, having checked out the locations the day before. I would like to thank every farmer brave enough to allow me to inspect their wheat. I can report that every crop was of a high standard, but the top three just had that wee bit more potential.
I was lucky enough to meet some of the next generation of farmers. These young folk are highly capable, excellent company and give me confidence for the future in these uncertain times.
