EVER since deregulation, milk producers on Scotland's islands have been treated with disdain by the only organisation to which they could sell their milk.
So, for once, First Milk must relax its rules and allow its suppliers on Bute an early exit from their 12 month notice contracts. And, it's not as if First Milk's future supply will be secure, as producers on the island will slowly but surely withdraw from milk production.
First Milk, the producers themselves, their NFUS representatives and the Scottish Government must come up with a formula to make this happen.
