IN THESE times of gender, religious and cultural equality, it is definitely disappointing that male only bunnets have been thrown into the ring – so far – for the upcoming elections to the higher echelons of NFU Scotland.
To buck this trend, members of the fairer sex only have until Monday to get their nominations in.
Certainly, this newspaper knows of at least a couple of female farmers who would be more than capable candidates for the top positions.
There is also, seemingly, a similar age bias when to comes to these appointments. This is also unsatisfactory.
If not this time round, then when NFUS election time comes around again, it is to be hoped that youth and/or the fair sex are in the mix.
For example, a young lady straight out the ranks of the SAYFC would be a most refreshing nominee!
