PEEBLESSHIRE Holstein breeder, Alister Laird, Blyth Bridge, Peeblesshire, is the first Scottish dairy producer to have been awarded the coveted John Dennison Lifetime Achievement Award.
The award - now in its fourth year - is presented in memory of the highly regarded breeder of Denmire Holsteins, by the Dennison family, to a person judged to be an exemplary role model to the industry.
Alister's farming enterprise at Blyth Bridge and Ardgairney, Kinross, is very much a family affair with Alister's wife Kathleen, their two children Colin and Ann, and Colin's fiancée Izzy Wright, all involved in the business.
They milk 550 cows at Blyth Bridge, with the young stock at Ardgairney.
"Alister is a well-respected member of the UK dairy industry, and a particular noted breeder of Holsteins," said John Gribbon, just one of the judges
"He is valued by all of his peers in the industry, and this award is a great opportunity to celebrate these qualities."
