A BRITISH Blue cow from James and Sam Martin has become the first Blue to ever win the inter-breed title at Balmoral Show.

Taking the top title was James and Sam Martin's five-year-old Springhill Golden Girl - an emryo by Gitan du pti't Mayeur out of Springhill Country Girl, a Twyning Ash Vaughan daughter - has won the breed honours here three years in a row and was shown with her January-born bull calf at foot, Springhill Leo, by Springhill Gladiator.

Reserve here, as placed by Arwel Own, from Powys, was the commercial leader - a Limousin cross heifer named J-Lo from Garreth Corrae, Johnny Neal and Charles Bever from JCB Commercials. This 17-month-old on her showing debut was bought for £1100 at Hilltown last year.

Second reserve was Stranagone Jones, a 16-month-old Charolais bull from Robert McWilliams. The breeding here includes Blelack Digger on to Stranagone Erin, an Oldstone Egbert daughter.

Among the juniors it was the Limousin leader, Claragh Lily from John and Paul Rainey, that stood supreme. She is by Wilodge Vantastic and out of the Sympa-sired Haltcliffe Avon, making her a full ET sister to the 18,000gns Claragh Layla sold at Carlisle last week.
