A CRACKING in-calf Aberdeen-Angus heifer from John Gilmour's Belhaven herd, from Tranent, took centre stage to claim the overall champion of champions at what turned out to be a glorious day at Fife Show, last weekend.

Earlier forecasts predicted torrential rain for most of the day, however, with only the skiff of a shower, the crowds turned out in their thousands, to witness NFUS president, Allan Bowie, give the winning slap to Belhaven Francophile P104.

The heifer, brought out by Richard, Carol and Jamie Rettie, had initially won the inter-breed beef honours ahead of reserve winner, the British Blue champion, Nochnary Katie, a 14-month-old heifer from David McKerrow and sons David and James, Nochnary.

Adding to the celebrations, the McKerrows, scooped the inter-breed beef pairs, with their champion winner alongside the reserve, Tweeddale JLo.

Runner up for the pairs was an Angus duo from Allan Rennie, Mosston Muir, comprising two young home-bred bulls.

Another bumper line-up of sheep, saw the any other breed take the supreme overall. This was Peter and Lynda Wood's three-shear Charollais ram, Riverdale Novo, from Knockhill, which triumphed over Gordon and Donald Mackie's champion Suffolk, a ewe lamb by Forkins Boldboy, Drimmie.

The Wilsons from Carskerdo, continued on their winning ways too, lifting yet another supreme dairy title here, this time with the imported French Holstein, Drakkar Helio, a second calver on her show debut.
