LESMAHAGOW'S dairy section champion, Grange Hall Stanleycup Lyme, shown by the Lawries of Grange Hall Farm, Pettinain, Lanark, was the judge's choice for champion of champions.

The second calver Holstein, classified VG87, was by Stanleycup out of a Woodmark Lyme cow, is three-months calved and currently giving 60litres a day.

Reserve overall was the continental cattle section winner Strawfrank Leroy, shown by Allan Campbell of Strawfrank Farm, Carstairs Junction. This 13-month-old Limousin bullock was by Goldies Comet out of Gunnerfleet Cassuna, and showed its promise early with a win at the Stars of the Future calf show.

Reserve in the beef competition, and scoring his first big solo win, was Ben Radley, of Loaninfoot Farm, Dumfries, with the commercial section champion Scallywag, a 13-month-old British Blue cross heifer, by a Willodge sire, that was bought in Dumfries in October, and which was making it debut show appearance at Lesmahagow.

Leading the sheep inter-breed was the Texel section winner from the Clark brothers' Teiglum flock, a gimmer by Castlecairn Vavavoom out of a ewe by Strathbogie Smokey Blue, whose full sister was first-placed at last year's Highland and reserve female champion at the Yorkshire.

Reserve inter-breed was a first-time-out Blackface shearling from Hartside Farms. By a £20,000 Dyke out of a ewe by a £22,000 Pole, it will be going for sale in October.
