DALRYMPLE show saw the Blackface champion from Billy McFarlane, and sons Alfie and Joe, of Drumgrange, Patna, take the champion of champions title, impressing the judges, John Struthers, Matthew Burks and Graham Burke. This home-bred gimmer is a daughter of a £40,000 Harkin sire and stood second at Straiton on her only other outing.
Local lad, Andrew Wylie, had a cracker of day, taking the reserve honours with one of only two cows in his herd. His cow and calf unit had taken the cattle interbreed championship earlier in the day. This three-year-old Limousin cross British Blue cow has a February-born Limousin-sired heifer calf at foot and had been bought from John McAlister of West Thomaston, Banknock, through the ring in Stirling.
One of the big competitions of the day at Dalrymple is the inter-breed group of three sheep, and this year was no exception. The top award went to young Gregor Hiddleston with his group of Suffolks. He had earlier beaten off strong opposition to win both the champion and reserve awards in the Suffolk section.
