STOPPING off at the Kittochside Heavy Horse Show after a busy week at the Great Yorkshire was made all the more worthwhile for the McMillan family from the Isle of Bute when their yearling filly, Mill Duchess Kate, picked up the Clydesdale championship before she went on to take the champion of champions accolade.
The tickets didn't stop there for the 'marvellous McMillans' as they were dubbed by commentator, Delma Nulty, as the family – represented on the day by John, aka Speedy, Jock, Brian and Fiona – also swept the boards in the turnout section to win every class and the overall tri-colour rosette.
Their first championship of the day, however, as selected by Neil Christie, went to their Dillars Top Gun-sired Mill Duchess Kate, which has already made her mark in the showring to stand champion at the Kilpatrick and Lothian and Borders foal shows as well as reserve at the Winter Fair. Bred out of Mill Lady Di, a former member of the winning team of six class at the Highland, Kate also stood second in her class to the reserve female champion at this year's Highland Show.
Charlotte Young and father, Jim, were also in the tickets when their two-year-old colt, Doura Aird Ambition, lifted the male honours before taking the reserve Clydesdale championship while their Kilmaclasser Bonnie Lily stood reserve female.
Annette Noble's five-year-old gelding, Peggyslea Andy, was selected as reserve male champion.
A strongly supported Shetland section saw the standard leader, Ravenside Curiosity, go on to take the supreme Shetland honours for Janet and Katie Lowthian, with Janet's husband Thomas handling the two-year-old filly in the ring. Fresh from her female championship and reserve supreme at the Great Yorkshire, this Headswick Romancer daughter out of Ravenside Truly Inspiring also stood reserve at Cumberland Show.
Reserve to Curiosity in the standard section was Jim Wilson and grand-daughter, Lisa's 11-year-old chestnut mare, Warrackston Guylian.
But going on to stand reserve supreme Shetland was Alichbrae Ruby, a yearling filly from Steven Mckay and daughter, Kirsty. Miniature champion at the Tayside Foal Show, this Kerswell Montgomery daughter is out of Kerswell Rania, a mare that stood supreme at the Central Scotland Group show last year.
Taking the reserve miniature title was Lorna Jamieson's Lignite Swingtime.
