For the second consecutive year wet weather in the far North dealt a serious financial blow to Latheron Agricultural Society’s annual show.
In a repeat of last year, the showground at West Clyth was waterlogged and with only a few days to reorganise, the venue and most of the events were moved to Lybster village, a few miles away, while the horse section was relocated, almost 20 miles away, to Northfield Livery Stables at Halkirk.
Taking her first championship of the season was the 10-month-old commercial calf, Kiss My .... a British Blue heifer shown by Mark Munro, Invercharron, which went on to take the supreme champion of champions.
Reserve overall was the lead horse, Supreme Diamond Edge, a light legged Irish hunter, from Gillian McArthur, St Magnus Road, Thurso.
Reserve in the cattle lines was the continental champ, Caithness Krystal, a home-bred, eight-month-old British Blue heifer by Drift Dominoe, from James Manson, Upper Northfield, Wick.
Charles and Isobel Angus, Oldfield, Thurso, took the supreme sheep title with home-bred two-crop ewe by Oldfield Telstar. Keeping it in the family, their grandson, Charles Paul Angus, Clindrag Cottage, Murkle, secured the blue and white sash with his Suffolk champion, a home-bred one-crop ewe.
