IN THE sunshine at Tiree Show, last weekend, the champion of champions was the winner from the cattle section.
This was an early May-born Charolais cross bullock calf, by Thrunton Grand Prix, from Archie John MacLean, Heylipol, which was chosen ahead of the Limousin cow, Anside Halle, from son, Alasdair MacLean, which was the pure-bred champion.
Reserve pure-bred was a British Blue heifer, Ruaig Lucy, by Brennard Ernie, from Alastair and Iain MacInnes, Ruaig, who also lifted reserve in the cross cattle with the champion from the breeding classes, a Limousin cross heifer.
Young Kirsteen MacKinnon, Parkhouse, lifted the young stockperson championship and was reserve to Heylipol with her black Limousin calf in the male suckled calf championship.
Heylipol’s success continued in the cross and pure sheep classes. Fraser and Alasdair MacLean, respectively, were overall and reserve awards, respectively – Fraser’s home-bred Suffolk ewe, by a Redbrae sire, being supreme sheep.
Reserve went to brother Alasdair's Tiree AJ, a Beltex shearling ram by Woodies Ringleader.
Champion horse once again came from Jan Patterson, Balinoe.
