Forfar
The champion butchers’ beast from Kirriemuir Show, a 584kg Limousin heifer from JA Peters and Son, West Bog, that topped Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 36 prime cattle, when she made 276p per kg or £1611.84.
Bullocks sold to 230 twice – for Limousins weighing 601kg and 598kg from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres – as well as £1404 for a 702kg Limousin from DC Pate, Kincreich.
Overall, 29 heifers levelled at 219p with the seven bullocks at 214p. 
Trade was slightly sharper on the week for the 482 spring lambs sold, which peaked at 232.5p for a 40kg pen of Texels from R and A Stoddart, Mill of Inverarity, with a 49kg Texel from the same home at £101. 
They levelled at 193.3p (+3.3p on the week and +46.7p on the year) with SQQ lambs at 207.7p. 
A smaller show of 81 cast ewes sold to £100 for Texel ewes from A Beattie, Tulliwhanland, and D and J Smith, Fallaw. 


Dumfries
TRADE improved with best sorts in short supply at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 19 prime cattle, last week, where a Limousin heifer from J Jardine, Yett, led at 228.5p per kg. 
OTM cattle (56) peaked at 136p for a Limousin from Druidhall with a Charolais from Oxgang at £1154.25.
Due to the torrential weather, a reduced entry of 331 prime lambs was on offer which sold to £94 for Texels from Thorns. 
Texels also led the 863 cast sheep with ewes from Isle of Dalton making £90.50.


Thainstone
PRIME cattle reached 232p per kg for a 630kg Limousin bullock from Auchmaliddie Mains, Maud, at last week’s sale of 53 through Aberdeen and Northern Marts. 
Bullocks also led the gross trade at £1505.20 for a 710kg Limousin from East Futtie, Lumphanan, and averaged 203.6p (+5.7p on the week) for 32. 
Heifers (21) averaged 208p (-3.1p) and sold to 228p twice – for a 575kg Limousin from Cairncoullie, Glenkindie, and for a 545kg Limousin from Upper Ashalloch, Corse – as well as £1443.05 for a 665kg Charolais from Ladymill, Alford. 
A 172-strong entry of cast beef cows levelled at 134.2p and peaked at 181.7p for a 655kg Salers from Milton of Cullerlie, Echt, and £1445 for a 955kg Limousin from Easter Tolmauds, Tornaveen. 
Averaging 180.9p (-8.9p), the 573 lambs hit 197.6p for a pen of 41kg Texels from Bush of Muldearie, Mulben, and £93 for a pen of 56kg Texels from Oldtown Farm, Peterculter. 
The 351 SQQs averaged 183.3p (-6.9p). 


Longtown
LAMBS of good quality and with a bit of weight sold well at C and D Auction Marts, last week, where quality export lambs were keenly sought after. 
The 2820 on offer sold to 238p per kg for Texels from Hallbankgate and £104 for Texels from Carran, Thurso. They levelled at 191p, a rise of 42p on the year. 
A larger show of 4055 cast ewes and rams hit £141 for Texel ewes from Beckfoot. 
The 17 prime cattle sold to 213.5p for a Limousin bullock from JR Nixon, Hallees. 


Stirling (Cal)
A LIMOUSIN bullock from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, topped Caledonian Marts’ sale of 86 prime cattle, last week, when it made 238p per kg. 
Another Limousin bullock, this time from JH and NT Turnbull, Meadowend, Clackmannan, led the gross trade at £1601.30 with bullocks averaging 211p.
Heifers levelled at 209p, having peaked at 235p three times – twice for Limousins from AS Hay, Mains of Cultmalundie, and again for an Aberdeen-Angus from D Campbell and Son, 28 Ancaster Square, Callander – with a Limousin heifer from Learielaw at £1504. 
Of the 52 cast cows and bulls, a Charolais cow from R McNee, Woodend, Armadale, led at 154p or £1200 while dairy cows sold to 123p from WA Hume and Co, Easter Clune, Dunfermline, and £960 from J and I Wilson, Casrkedo, Cupar. 
Beef cows averaged 123p with dairy types at 95p.
On Tuesday, the firm sold 1336 prime lambs, cast ewes and rams, where lambs levelled at 180.4p (-3.6p on the week but +44p on the year).
Top price was £100 or 233p per kg for a lamb from G Whyte, Pett, Muthill.
Cast ewes averaged £67.62 with 190 heavies at £89.23 and export types at £51.85. Lead price was £142 for heavy Texels from Drimsynie Estate.

Stirling (UA)
PRIME lambs sold to average 188.5p per kg at United Auctions’ sale of 2646 alongside 940 cast ewes and rams, last week. 
Lambs sold to 229p and £112 for Beltex from Doune Farms while cast sheep hit a top of £127 for Texel ewes from Drimsynie with tups to £110 for Leicesters from Little Kilmory.

Ayr 
LEADING the prime lambs at Craig Wilson's sale on Monday, were heavyweight Texels from Messrs Brown, Caprickhill, which sold for £97 with Beltex from J Wilson, Wheatrigg, Kilmaurs, at 211.1p per kg. 
Top price for the 694 cast sheep was £148, paid for Texel ewes from J Forsyth, Glenside, Maybole. 
On Tuesday, the firm sold 211 prime and cast cattle where 15 heifers averaged 213.9p or £1154.31 and five young bulls at 175.7p or £1193.23.
Limousin heifers from Callochmun topped the trade at 227p and £1265. 
In the cast ring, 72 beef cows averaged 122.76p and peaked at 168.8p for a Simmental from Crouse and £1420 for a Charolais from Balnowlart, while 111 dairy cows levelled at 90.61p and sold to 142.4p from Dunallan and £990 from Darnlaw.


St Boswells
SELLING easier on the week at Harrison and Hetherington's sale on Monday, were 2337 lambs which averaged 180p per kg (-16p on the week) peaking at £103 and 223.9p for Beltex from Redden. 
Ewes (305) averaged £74 and sold to £113 for Texels from Eilean. 
Bullocks (12) averaged 219.8p (+8.6p on the week) and sold to 247p from Seggarsdean while heifers (28) averaged 212.7p (-0.6p) and sold to 243p from WTS Forsyth and Sons, Snawdon . 
Also sold were 32 beef-type cows which averaged 127.7p having sold to £1419.84 from Kersknowe. 


Carlisle
FORWARD at Harrison and Hetherington’s Borderway Mart, on Monday, were 61 prime bullocks and heifers where a top price of £1808.33 was paid for a Limousin heifer from Loughrigg, Egremont. 
Topping the bullocks was a Limousin cross from Crosby House, Maryport, which made £1590. 
Also on offer were 325 cast cows where Messrs Ridley, Haltcliffe, sold a Limousin cow for £1368. 
An entry of 2395 prime lambs averaged 187.8p per kg and peaked at £107.80 for Texels from JJ and CE Palmer, Greensyke, Lamplugh. Top price per kg was 250.8p for Dutch Texels from Hargill House. 
Cast ewes sold to a top of £120 for Texels from M Batty, Maryport. 


Dingwall
PRIME cattle averages fell on the week at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale on Tuesday, where six bullocks levelled at 204.5p per kg (-16.5p) with 17 heifers at 206.6p (-15.5p).
Topping the entry at 212p were two heifers – a 545kg Charolais cross from Bridgend, Dingwall, and a 560kg Limousin cross from Udale, Poyntzfield. 
Udale led every other section to sell 625kg and 685kg Limousin cross bullocks for 210p and £1411.10, respectively, as well as a 700kg Simmental cross heifer for £1330.
Lambs were also back on the week when 425 averaged 180p (-11.2) with the 424 SQQs at 190.2p (-11.2p). Texel crosses weighing 45.5kg from Guisachan, Tomich, topped at 197.8p and £90.
Prime and feeding sheep (84) hit £88 for Texel ewes from 1 Raddery, Fortrose.


Castle Douglas
WALLETS Marts sold 1544 lambs to average 180.28p per kg, with SQQ lambs at 180.67p. 
They sold to 197.4p for Beltex from Messrs Campbell, Carsewalloch, and £94 twice – for Suffolks from Messrs Lindsay, Culnaightrie, and Texels from Messrs Young, Hightownhead. 
Cast sheep (231) sold sharper on the week and to a top of £96.50 for Texels from Cogarth.


Newton Stewart
PRIME lambs sold slighty cheaper on the week to average 181.4p per kg for the 1054 sold through Craig Wilson's sale on Wednesday.
They reached 200p for a pen of Beltex weighing 40kg from P Murray, High Ersock, and £100 for two pens of Suffolks from T Cannon, Little Torhouse. 
Cast sheep sold to a top price of £107 for Texel tups from G and H Mulla, Barbrae, with ewes peaking at £104 for Texels from Messrs Johnstone, No2 South Balfern.
