Scottish Beltex sheep breeders, Allan Jackson and his son, Ali, enjoyed a field day at the Royal Welsh Show, winning the breed section and the inter-breed group of three.

Allan and his partner, Senga Hamilton-Guy, from Kirkfieldbank, Lanark, first took the breed honours with a Headlind Baavoum, a ewe lamb that scooped the same award at the Great Yorkshire the previous week and stood second in her class at the Highland. A daughter of the imported sire, Wully 900, she is out of a home-bred ewe by Southholm Peter which made 1700gns at Chelford earlier in the year.

Notably, the couple's second prize ewe lamb scooped the reserve female honours.

Adding to the celebrations, Ali Jackson, who owns the Tip Top flock at Annan, won the reserve male honours with a tup lamb by Broughton Ale and the inter-breed group of three – all with home-bred sheep. This comprised the tup lamb and his full ET ewe lamb sister that stood third in her class to the champion and a gimmer by Woodies Wots up Doc, which also scooped a red ticket.

And, in the cattle lines, Ali, who is stockman for Kevin Watret's Solway View British Blue herd, at Annan, brought out the male champion and reserve overall in Solway View Jackpot. This 21/2-year-old white bull by the show winning Solway View Firecracker, out of Bringlee Evadine, was third at the Highland. Later, two of Mr Watret's females, Solway View Jitter and Solway View Irresistable, made up part of the reserve inter-breed group of five.

Regular winners, William and Carole Ingram, sons Gregor and Bruce and daughter Amy, Logie Durno, Inverurie, were in the tickets too, taking the reserve male with a Charollais tup.
