KINTYRE'S 150th show was celebrated in style last weekend.

In the main ring, it was stand on again for the Clydesdale winner, the six-year-old brood mare Garcalfra Sweet Chloe, from David and Callum MacPhail, as she took her second champion of champions title in succession, this time shown with a lovely filly foal at foot.

Also in contention was the winner of the sheep section, a ewe lamb from Mrs Jean McLachlan, with her husband, John helping to bring her out.

The Blue had beaten a one-crop, Garngour-bred Texel ewe from John Pirie, Machrihanish, to take the sheep inter-breed title.

Again, the peninsula's dairy farmers rallied together to produce one of the finest shows of dairy cattle in Scotland. Winning the overall was John Ralston, Kilkivan, with his black and white section winner, the third calved Kirkivan Boulder Joyful, which had led its breed section last year.

The biggest smiles of the day, though, came from sister and brother, Megan (10) and Fraser (8) Lines, from Killacraw, who led, fed and brushed up an April-born black heifer calf to win the beef cattle section against strong competition.
