A RAIDER from the mainland came up trumps at Bute Show to take the supreme champion of champions title.
This was in the form of Dexter Logan's Highland cattle breed leader, Solas Emma 4 of Benmore, from Blairlogan, Greenhead, Alva.
Tops among the sheep was another from the mainland, the McPherson family's well-known Blackie ewe, Prosecco, from Balliemeanoch, Dalmally, which led over Hugh McCulloch's Bluefaced Leicester leader.
Keeping the overall dairy title on the island was the Holstein leader from Ally and Jean Kennedy, Largievrechtan, while the other beef sections were topped by Robert and Paula McAlister's Simmental bull from Langalbuinoch on the west coast of the island.
The woes in the dairy industry certainly depleted entries, but it was still Holstein and Ayrshires which dominated the inter breed group of three, with the winning team coming from James Lyon, Little Kilchattan, with Holsteins, which finished in front of James McAlister's Ayrshires from Bruchag.
Among the Clydesdales, the topper was Tom McMillan's two-year-old filly from Eskechraggan, while champion young handler was Stewart Kennedy from Edinbeg.
