IT was a cracking Strathardle Show debut for husband and wife duo Brian and Karen Webster, yesterday, when their Limousin cross bullock secured the champion of champions accolade.

This April-born bullock is by an AI sire and out of a pure British Blue cow from the couple’s Whitefield herd of just four females. Named George by five-year-old daughter Holly, he will be aimed for the Royal Northern Spring Show.

Davie and Elizabeth Stewart continued their run of winning form among the prime lambs and breeding sheep, with their single breeding ewe going on to take the best breeding female title. By a Scrogtonhead Texel tup, she is out of a ewe that is three-quarter Texel and one-quarter Cheviot.

Leading the prime lamb section for the 33rd year, the Stewarts’ winning duo this year weighed in at 40.5kg apiece and were sired by a home-bred Beltex tup.

Also competing in the supreme championship was the South-type Blackface winner, a three-crop ewe by a loaned Auchloy-bred grand-son of Travis from Mark Simpson, and the leader of the North-type Blackies, a three-crop ewe by a £9500 Haughton from the Nicol family.
