SOME NEW features have been added to the LiveScot schedule for next week’s show, on November 24 and 25, at Lanark Agricultural Centre.

Two sections have been added, including one for dairy cattle which will incorporate the local club show, but which is hoping to be built up in the coming years. A catalogue of 20 have been entered.

A spokesman for the show said: “With the demise of the Lanarkshire evening show a number of years ago, the Lanarkshire Holstein Club approached us to see if there would be a possibility of hosting such a show at LiveScot. This year, we will have three classes – heifers, junior cows and senior cows, with judging commencing at 12 noon.”

The other new section is for poultry, which is aimed at catering for the growing hobby of breeding show fowl, with Lanark being one of the main centres in Scotland for buying and selling poultry.

The event, though, is centred around the mainstream beef and sheep sections, with 106 show cattle entered, plus 13 butchers’ animals. There will also be a show of 42 baby beef calves, including many potential winners for next year’s summer show season.

In the sheep section, more than 150 commercial sheep have been entered and numbers will also be bolstered by a show and sale of both Beltex and Texel sheep. At 11.30 am on Saturday, the Texel female sale will be held, followed by Beltex female sale. Then, at 1.00 pm there will be a special charity raffle draw for Doreen Cormack's Stem Cell Fund

Other attractions include sections for crooks and walking sticks, baking and crafts, plus the popular root and grain show.
