AFTER periods of drizzly rain, the skies cleared slightly for the champion of champions judging in the main ring, allowing exhibitors and public alike to enjoy an impressive show of livestock.
Based on a points system, all seven judges had tough task, but after close competition, the acollade went to Chorrach 13 of Pollok, Glasgow City Council’s Highland heifer, which also took the same honours at Beith Show. Brought out by Matt Auld, this three-year-old heifer is by Uallach Ruadh 3 of Pollok.
A Bluefaced Leicester ewe lamb was reserve to this beast, which was brought out by Robert McInnes, just missing the overall prize by one point. This was by an £8000 Midlock sire.

LEADING awards:
Holstein Friesian (Judge: H Kennedy, Stairdale, West Carngillan Farm,Tarbolton). Champion — JRT Campbell, Low Ballees, West Kilbride, with a two and a half-year-old heifer, which is 70 days calved, during which time she has produced 2100kg. Reserve — JRT Campbell with the top priced cow at the recent Dunallan dispersal sale, on the Isle of Bute. She was purchased for £2600, and is producing an average of 32kg per day. Beef cattle (Judge: S Campbell, Keppochan Farm House, Cladich, Dalmally). Champion and champion of champions — Glasgow City Council, with the Highland heifer, Chorrach 13 of Pollok. She is three-years-old, and is by Uallach Ruadh 3 of Pollok, out of Chorrach of Pollok. She was reserve champion at Biggar Show last year, and was champion of champions at Beith Show this year. Reserve — R and E McMillan, Little Grenach, Isle of Bute, with a Highlander, shown by Sarah-Jane. This animal was purchased privately from Donald Dempster as a calf. Junior bull, heifer born in 2016 — R and E McMillan. Cow, heifer born in 2014, heifer born in 2015 — Glasgow City Council. Pair — W and T Thomson, Woodneuk Farm, Hillside Road, Barrhead.
Clydesdale (Judge: T Mitchell, Barnahill, Kilmaurs,). Champion — A and E Campbell, Netherwood Cottage, Kilmacolm, with
Rashillhouse Betty, an 11-year-old mare. Sired by Millisle Perfection. Reserve to her was her one-month-old foal, Pacemuir Elizabeth, which was sired by Dillars Dura. All classes — A and E Campbell.
Highland ponies (Judge: Ms N Kelso, Spitalside Farm, Tarbolton). Champion — Mrs S Adams, Auchengarth Farm, Shore Road, Skelmorlie, with Lady Skye of Auchengarth, which was lead by Shona Adams. She is a seven-year-old mare out of Ballinton Islay Lady, by Carlung Jed. Reserve was also Mrs S Adams, with Jura Spirit of Auchengarth, an 11-year-old gelding by Rory of Ballin O, out of Ballinton Islay Lady. All classes — Mrs S Adams.
Blackface (Judge: A Smith, Wester Crosswoodhill Farm, West Calder). Champion — J and N McNicol, Fechan, Dalry, with a two-crop ewe by a £3800 Dyke, out of a £2200 Greenside. Her mother and grandmother have also been champion here previously. Reserve — Brisbane Glen Estates, Outerwards, with a one-crop ewe by an Easter Happrew sire. He was champion here last year and was also champion at Dalry this year. Tup aged three-years-old and over, tup hogg, bred tup hogg, ewe, ewe hogg, bred group, confined, female, eligible , shown — J and N McNicol. This lamb was champion at Newmilns. Reserve — J and J Murdoch, Fleminghill, Kilmarnock, also with a ewe lamb, which was second in its class to the champion. This animal is also by an £8000 Midlock. Tup hogg, tup lamb, ewe lamb, bred male or female — RD McInnes. Ewe — J and J Murdoch. Ewe hogg — A McIntyre.

Texel (Judge: A Fletcher, Laigh Hatton Farm, Bishopton). Champion — R Currie, Westlands Farm, Isle of Bute, with a homebred ewe lamb by Eden Valley Youthful, out of a home-bred ewe. Reserve — Miss A Wright, Laverock, Kilmacolm, with a Texel ewe, which was bought in a trio of gimmers from the Struthers of Greenbank, Carluke. This ewe is by Strath Tantastic, and out of a Greenbank ewe. She was also champion and overall sheep champion at Kilmacolm. Tup, ewe hogg, ewe lamb — R Currie. Tup lamb, ewe, group — Miss A Wright.
