WHILE the Angus boys enjoyed a good day, the celebrations probably went on longer in the Highland cattle lines when relatively new breeders, Graeme Easton and Rebecca Greenhorn, picked up their first red, white and blue sash here.

Mr Easton, a freelance stockman to trade and Miss Greenhorn, who runs a transport business for Stonepark, Forfar, went to the top with their two-year-old heifer, Eleanor of Ubhaidh. This stylish heifer, which was bought privately from Roy Tylden Wright just three months previously, has already made her mark, having scooped the reserve breed honours at Alyth Show.

A daughter of Fergus of Ubhaidh, Eleanor is out of Alice 1 of Earn and runs alongside of a handful of pedigree Highland in the couple’s Idvies fold, plus a few Aberdeen-Angus and Charolais at The Ranch, Letham.

HM the Queen’s Prionnsa Dubh of Craigowmill, a six-year-old black bull from Balmoral, continued on his winning ways too lifting the male championship and reserve overall with stockman, Dochie Ormiston and his brother Fergus in charge. The bull, a son of Panther 2 of Vom Aignerhof, bought privately from Ken Brown, is out of Lady Ama Dubh 2 of Craigowmill. He stood male champion here and at the national show at the Black Isle in 2015.

Following him to take the reserve male honours and coveted exhibitor bred title was Alan Prentice’s Eachan Ruadh of Hyndford, a yearling son of Alexander of Glengorm, out of Banrigh 3 of Hyndford, a Jacobite of Benmore daughter, from Ravenstruther, Lanark, and a former champion here. This youngster was first at Campsie, Kilmacolm and Dalry shows.

Glasgow City Council’s three-year-old heifer, Chorrach 13 of Pollok, by Uallach Ruadh 3 of Pollok and bred from a previous home-bred Chorrach, was runner-up amongst the females with stockman, Matt Auld, at the halter. Breed champion and overall champion of champions at Largs Show, she lifted the same at Beith and was reserve at Biggar, last year.
