DUMFRESSHIRE based Susan Bryden who runs her Broomwell flock at Lochmaben, Lockerbie, had plenty to celebrate when her champion from both Lesmahagow and Cumberland shows scooped the tri-colour.
This came in the shape of Broomwell Wallander, a shearling ram which is son of Broomwell Uther Pendragon, out of a Hayton ewe.
Returning to their winning ways, father and son team, James and Colin Arthur, from Greenaton, Carnwath, took the reserve male championship with a home-bred shearling ram named Wee Olly. He is out of a dam by Broomwell Supernatural which stood overall champion for the 12-ewe flock in 2014, and is sired by Keirhead Vinnie.
Husband and wife team, Eddie and Janice Henderson, from Landriggs House, Milnathort, headed up the females with the home-bred gimmer, Landriggs Wonder from their dozen-ewe flock. Competing in their sixth year at the Highland, this son of Landriggs Tamdhu stood reserve here as a lamb last year.
Janice Milne, from Thornhill, Stirling, who runs her Keirhead flock, followed behind in the females with a home-bred ewe, Keirhead Willow. This daughter of Bryn Caffo Twm – a sire bought as a lamb at Ludlow – stood third in her class last year and was reserve champion at the Smallholder Show.
