HOME-BRED genetics were behind the top commercial entry from an extremely strong championship line-up, when Andrew Baillie’s Millennium Blue cross ewe lifted the tri-colour.
This two-crop ewe, out of a Texel mother and one of some 500 commercial sheep that run alongside a nnumber of other breeds at Carstairs Mains, Lanark, was shown along with her pair of ewe lambs by the Beltex sire, Mortons Apache, with help from Andrew’s 10-year-old son, Cameron, and shepherd, Kenny O’Connor.
James Orr had plenty to celebrate when, having never won a red ticket at Ingliston before, he scooped the reserve honours with a Texel cross ewe lamb. Marking a strong show debut, this March-born daughter of an Easterseat sire is out of a Texel cross mother, one of 40 run by James alongside the family’s arable operation.
