GOLDEN Girl, a 19-month-old Charolais cross lived up to her name amongst a bumper show of commercial cattle, taking the female honours and supreme overall for Jennifer Hyslop.

This stylish heifer, bred by Luke Bowen and bought privately in February, had already made her mark on the show circuit, having been champion at Dalry, Stewarton, Straiton and beef inter-breed at Newmilns. She is by Deunawd Henry.

A Limousin cross heifer from Gareth Small, Northern Ireland, followed to take the runner up heifer, reserve overall, and coveted exhibitor bred title. This black yearling is by the 10,000gns Swarland Eddie, which has bred numerous top show calves and out of the pure British Blue cow, Pastellie, which has bred a former champion winner at Smithfield and the Agri Expo. The heifer, which was brought out with assistance from Nairn Wyllie and Cammy Jackson, is a full sister to the show winning Pocahontas and stood first in her class and exhibitor bred at Balmoral.

Bringing up the rear, James Forsyth led the males with Jack Flash, a home-bred 17-month-old stot, shown by son Jack (16) from Mid Bishopton, Newton Stewart. He was first in the calf classes at Livestock and notably, is out of inter-breed beef champion winner here in 2007, Fancy This, a 12-year-old Limousin cross cow bred by Andrew Anderson.

Runner up male was James Nisbet’s No Frills Fraser, a 13-month-old Limousin cross bred by AV Brace. This youngster, from Sorn Mains, Mauchline, is out of a British Blue cross cow.
