Aberdeen-Angus led the native Beefbreeder honours taking champion and reserve, while the continental section saw the top two awards go to a Simmental and Limousin, respectively.

Supreme native was Gordon Brooke Estate’s Linton Gilbertines President, a 15-month-old bull by Netherallan Peter Pershore, from Upper Huntlywood, Earlston. First in his class and reserve junior champion at the show, this youngster was also male champion at Northumberland Show. He is out of Belhaven Polestar, a Rawburn Lord Ross-sired cow bought at Stirling for 5500gns, after standing female champion and was shown by stockman, Iain Campbell.

Just pipped at the post was Hamish Sclater’s Deveron Eldon, a similarly aged bull by the 10,000gns Belhaven Dryburgh Abbey, from Denhead, Dunlugas, Turriff. He is out of Deveron Elize and also stood first in his Angus class.

Having stood male champion and reserve overall in the Simmental section, the Macpherson family’s Blackford Galaxy, went on to lead the continental beef breeder competition. This massive 25-month-old bull is by Curlieu Knight, bred from Blackford Aero and has since been sold to the Denizes herd.

Stuart and Ewan Fotheringham’s Ballinloan Limousin herd from Dunkeld, came up with the goods too, lifting the reserve with Ballinloan Mountain, a yearling son of Ampertaine Foreman which stood second in his class to the male champion. His mother is the Millgate Caesar daughter, Ballinloan Gaga.
