North Country Cheviot chairman Willie Thomson and his father Jimmy, had a field day for the breed's National show at the Border Union, winning both the Lairg and the park-type, which in turn went on to lift the supreme and reserve inter-breed sheep honours respectively.

The two breed shows which attracted an entry of more than 250 head, first saw a massive two-shear ram from the Thomson's Hownam Grange flock, crowned champion in the Lairg-type, with a gimmer from the same flock taking gold amongst the park sheep.

Inter-breed sheep judge, Rory Telford, Branton East Side, tapped out the Lairg-type champion - a two-shear tup bought from Newbank, last year at Lockerbie, for £8000 - as his overall sheep champion at this huge sheep show, with the park-type gimmer taking the blue and white sash.

Supreme overall champion of champions, however, was the Hunter champion, Mr and Mrs Andrew McCowan's Tredragon, a 10-year-old thoroughbred cross bay gelding from Horncliffe Mains, Berwick Upon Tweed.

Middleweight Hunter champion at the National Show in Buckinghamshire, this stylish ridden horse is by Tower of Magic and out of The Cavalier's Lady.

Overall judge, Ronnie Black, Newton of Collessie, found his reserve supreme in the inter-breed beef winner, Dinmore Jolly Good, a three-year-old Limousin bull from Keith Redpath, Redpath Farms, Kelso, paraded by Natalie Cormack.

Champion here last year, Jolly Good is by Wilodge Tonka, and stood in front of the Aberdeen Angus leader, Linton Gilbertines President, a March 2016-born bull, by Netherallan Peter Pershore, from the Gordon Brooke Estate, for the supreme beef.
