North Country Cheviot chairman, William Thomson and his father Jimmy, had a field day for the breed's two National Shows at Kelso, winning both the Lairg and the park-type sections which respectively went on to lift the supreme and reserve inter-breed sheep honours.

Their supreme overall was a massive Lairg-type two-shear ram that was bought at Lockerbie last year for £8000 from the Newbank flock.

Inter-breed sheep judge, Rory Telford, Branton East Side, found his reserve in the park-type North Country Cheviot, a gimmer from the Thomson's Hownam Grange flock from Kelso.

Overall champion of champions however, was the supreme Hunter, Mr and Mrs Andrew McCowan Tredragon, a 10-year-old bay gelding from Horncliffe Mains, Berwick upon Tweed. Middleweight Hunter champion at the breed show in Buckinghamshire, last year, this ridden horse is by Tor of Magic and out of The Cavaliers Lady.

Overall judge, Ronnie Black, Newton of Collessie, found his reserve overall in the supreme beef, Keith Redpath's Dinmore Jollygood, a three-year-old Limousin bull from Redpath Farms, Kelso. He is by Wilodge Tonka, and was paraded by Natalie Cormack.

Reserve beef was the Aberdeen-Angus leader, Linton Gilbertines President, a March 2016-born bull by Netherallan Peter Pershore, from the Gordon Brooke Estate.
