The first rain for 15 years failed to dampen spirits at Tiree Show, where an all female livestock line up was to the fore for the overall champion of champions.

Jan Paterson’s impressive Friesian mare Tallina, ridden by Julie Donn, won the coveted sash from the strong horse and pony section judged by Amber Cameron, Kilmalieu.

The new section for suckler cows and calves, saw the winner of this section go on to win the supreme cattle honours. This was a Limousin cross cow with spring-born Charolais calf from Colin and Hugh MacKinnon, Kilkenneth

The duo also scooped the runner-up award in the cross-bred cattle section with a spring-born Charolais cross bull calf by Inverlochy Go-Johnny-Go, a Crofters Commission bull.

Champion pure-bred amongst the cattle was a British Blue heifer from Alastair and Iain MacInnes, Ruaig. Their Ruaig Jewel, by Ruaig Exfactor, is out of the former winner here, Ruaig Destiny. The MacInnes’ also stood reserve with Ruaig Morven, another British Blue, this time a heifer calf by Bernard Ernie out of Ruaig Heidi.

Alasdair MacLean, Heylipol, topped the sheep section with his champion Beltex, Tiree Blossom, a home-bred gimmer by Callacrag Wise Crack out of Tiree Spice. She is a full sister to Tiree Benchmark, which sold at Lanark, last September.

Reserve was a home-bred Mule ewe lamb from Ettie MacDonald, Roadside. It is by a Kildalloig Bluefaced Leicester ram which in turn won the pure-bred sheep section.
