ABERDEENSHIRE Limousin breeders Harry and Lynwen Emslie received rapturous applause when their Welsh-bred bull, Whiskey Infinity, was crowned breed champion, at Royal Welsh Show on Monday.

This four-year-old bull from Kinknockie, Mintlaw, which is owned in partnership with four South African breeders known as Meridian Genetics, was bred in Wales by Dai Walters, Duffryn Farms, and bought privately three years ago.

No stranger to the limelight, this Plumtree Deus son out of Wilodge Glitzy was reserve male at the Highland where he also made up part of the winning inter-breed team. He was also overall champion of champions at New Deer Show.

Inter-breed beef champion was the Simmental leader, Popes Princess Cleo, from the Woods, Preston, which only two weeks previously scooped the exact same award at the Great Yorkshire.

Reserve inter-breed here last year and a member of the winning inter-breed pair, this six-year-old cow by Banwy Wonderboy, was shown with May-born heifer calf, Popes Princess Immie, by 20,000gns Kilbride Farm Comber.

Inter-breed judge, Geoff Riby found his reserve in the Beef Shorthorn champion, Westhide Zoe, a seven-year-old cow jointly owned by Richard Bartle, Mary Cormack and Paul Dawes, Herefordshire. She was bought in August 2015 at Hereford for 4500gns and was shown with eight-week-old heifer calf, Dinmore Zoe Leone.

Also selected in the short-leet was the Salers champion, Indiana Poll, from Matthew Jones, Harlech, on his debut solo outing after exhibiting with his father for many years. This October 2012-born French-bred cow was inter-breed champion at Paris Show in 2015 and is by Cumbria Joker.

The Charolais champion, Sportsman Ladyship, from Charlie Boden, Stockport, was also pulled forward. She is a 21/2-year-old by the 70,000gns Scottish sire, Barnsford Ferny.

Kevin Watret's long trip south from Annan, also proved worthwhile, when his British Blue, Solway View Kesha, a Solway View Firecracker daughter bred from Bringlee Evandine, lifted the female and reserve breed championship.
